ABOUT THE VENUE

The Ebell of Los Angeles was founded in 1894 based on the principles and teachings of Adrian Ebell, a pioneer in women’s education and the organizing of women’s societies in the late 19th century. Its home at the corner of Wilshire and Lucerne is a magnificent Italian Renaissance-style complex designed by architect Sumner P. Hunt, with beautifully preserved public rooms, gardens, and a significant collection of fine furnishings and art. Topped by its iconic neon sign, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre has welcomed notable guests including a young Judy Garland, Amelia Earhart, and jazz musician Dave Brubeck. The Ebell is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.
