The Pacifica STEM Scholars program offers students with a strong interest in science, technology, engineering, and math the opportunity to focus their studies and prioritize STEM courses. Students in the program gain access to specialized clubs, hands-on workshops, and unique learning experiences.

Those who successfully complete the program can graduate with STEM honors and receive a STEM endorsement on their official transcript. Students can apply to join at any point, and participation is also the first step toward earning STEM Distinction, though membership alone does not guarantee Distinction.

Earning STEM Scholar Distinction

Students who have been active members of STEM Scholars for at least one full academic year may pursue STEM Distinction through one of two pathways. Each pathway recognizes sustained academic excellence and meaningful engagement in STEM beyond the classroom.

Traditional Pathway

  • Complete at least 8 STEM courses, including 3 AP STEM courses, earning a B or higher in each AP course
  • Maintain a 3.7 weighted GPA in STEM courses
  • Complete 100 hours of STEM pursuits outside the classroom, which may include internships, enrichment programs, or in-depth research projects
  • Formally present their experiences to the STEM Scholar community

Advanced Pathway

  • Complete required science courses: Biology, Honors Chemistry, and Physics
  • Complete required math courses: Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB
  • Complete an additional 2 AP STEM courses

Stem Clubs & OPPORTUNITIES

Drone Club
The Drone Club gives students hands-on experience piloting and maintaining drones while preparing for the Aerial Drone Competition (ADC), hosted by the REC Foundation. Team members compete against other high schools in regional qualifiers with the goal of reaching national events. In fall 2023, Pacifica had the honor of hosting the inaugural West Los Angeles ADC event.

Makers Space
Led by student Aaron King, Makers Space encourages students to explore creativity and problem-solving through interactive workshops. Students build, tinker, and innovate, turning ideas into real-world projects.

Women in STEM
Led by students Milenne Gee and Shiloh Tucker, Women in STEM is a service-oriented club that empowers young women to explore STEM fields while giving back to the community.

Chem Club
Students collaborate in study groups, tackle challenging chemistry problems, and test their skills individually. Top performers gain the chance to compete in exciting chemistry competitions and earn recognition for their mastery of the subject.
