An Inside Look at Homecoming Week

January 20th, 2023

Gearing Up with Spirit Week
Leading up to the homecoming festivities this past weekend, students were encouraged to dress up according to our themed days during Spirit Week. Everyone swapped out their regular uniform attire and got creative with silly outfits and unique looks. Our themes for the week were pajama day, twin day, anything-but-a-backpack day, dress like a celebrity day, and Pacifica spirit day. Two students who went above and beyond in their dress-up ingenuity were crowned Spirit King and Queen, with junior Harper Mehl and freshman Aurora Malerba taking home the titles.

Friday's Pep Rally
On Friday, everyone came to school decked out in Seawolf colors for Spirit Day and our homecoming pep rally during an extended lunch. Students, faculty, and staff piled in the gym to watch a three-point shootout between students representing each grade, with the finalist having the chance to face off against Pacifica math teacher Mr. Benedetto and win a prize for their entire class. Freshman Jude Toren put up a good fight, but ultimately Mr. B was victorious.

Next, the whole school cheered on our winter sports teams as they were presented at the pep rally. Salty the Seawolf even made an appearance to wish them luck! Lastly, Jenna Kim and Jeff Molina were named Freshman Lord and Lady, and Amadora Paola and Mason Kim were named Sophomore Duke and Duchess.

The Annual Boat Dance
All aboard the Fantasea Yacht! Pacifica students got dressed to the nines Friday night for our annual Homecoming Boat Dance in Marina del Rey. The four-story boat had something for everyone, with board games and cozy couches on the first floor, dessert on the second floor, the dance floor on the third, and open air on the top floor. The chaos was interrupted only to name Jonas Williams and Eva Castano as Junior Prince and Princess. Pacifica could’ve danced all night long if the boat hadn’t docked!

Seawolf LuncheonSaturday morning started off with the annual Seawolf Luncheon. This was a time to learn about and honor the original Seawolves, veterans of the Vietnam War. After hearing from various speakers and watching highlights from the documentary chronicling the powerful history and experiences of the Seawolf veterans, students and staff enjoyed a meal together. It was an opportunity to reflect on what it means to bear the Seawolf as our Pacifica mascot before heading into the homecoming games.

Homecoming Basketball Games
The Seawolves took the court Saturday night to face off against Buckley. While the rain put a damper on the afternoon’s festivities, it didn’t prevent the Wolfpack from showing up and filling the stands! Boys JV Basketball played first, taking the win against Buckley. Girls Basketball was up next, ending with a winning score of 53-25.

Homecoming Court
Aidan Younger and Mei Zhong were crowned Homecoming King and Queen, and the crowd had a chance to celebrate all of our 2023 Homecoming royalty. Pacifica’s Wolf PACappella team led the audience in the National Anthem before the Boys Varsity Basketball game, and our Dance Team gave a great performance at halftime. The Seawolves were on fire, gaining an early lead and maintaining it throughout the game to end with a score of 91-68.

What a homecoming week!
