Meet Albert Kong, Student Life Director

September 22nd, 2023

Pacifica’s new Student Life Director, Albert Kong, was born in Los Angeles but raised in Santa Clarita Valley. His parents moved their family out to the valley when Albert was young to keep him out of trouble. In his senior year of high school, Mr. K discovered a love for theater. To his parents' dismay, he opted to pursue acting in college instead of pre-med, and was accepted into UCLA’s theater program. College was a pivotal time for Mr. K for several reasons. While he grew up going to church and was familiar with religion, it wasn’t until the latter end of college when Albert devoted his life to the Lord.

“I’ve been shown immeasurable grace,” says Mr. K. “It is only by this grace that I’m not dead or in jail.”

While in college, he also learned the importance of one’s individual commitment to his or her own education, and that this commitment determines the value of an education much more than the institution or professors itself. After college, Mr. K filmed two independent features in Korea, and then returned to the states to build his resume doing student films and working odd jobs to support his pursuit of professional acting. He was eventually able to work full time as an actor, but throughout all of the various seasons in his acting career, both vocationally and financially, Albert has been active in serving the next generation of young people.

Mr. K met his wife while serving at a youth program in Los Angeles, and now as a newlywed couple, they remain committed to the calling of serving those that are coming after them. They see this as a lifestyle, and prior to Pacifica they were both working with nonprofit organizations at the only IB program school in Southeast LA.

“I think an all too common and unfortunate occurrence is the conflation of calling and career,” says Albert. “My career path is not directed by me. It is beholden to how and where the Lord leads. I’m grateful to be currently working where my calling and vocation are in alignment, but I am surrendered to what God asks of me. I’ve laid down acting for this season to work at Pacifica because I feel God has called me to this school for this season. I'm looking forward to seeing what God will do and I count myself privileged and honored to be working here.”

Mr. K is eager to contribute to the culture of excellence and community at Pacifica. His ultimate hope is that as students exit high school, they would know who Jesus is in a very real way. Mr. K's presence and impact on campus is already tangible—from constantly conversing with students, to jumping into planning our all-school retreat, to exhibiting humility while learning from current staff, faculty, and students. In his free time, Mr. K enjoys working out and making music.

We can’t wait to take on a new school year with Mr. K heading student life!
