Meet Dane Fragger, Director of College Counseling

August 4th, 2023

Dane Fragger was raised in two vastly different cities: Albuquerque, New Mexico and Walnut Creek, California. He grew up splitting his time between his mom and stepdad in New Mexico, and his father in California. When it came time to decide where to go to college, he chose the University of New Mexico to study psychology. Dane has always been interested in the human mind, and this course of study allowed him to explore this interest deeply. He says that one of his most valuable lessons from his college years is to “never stop learning.” Dane has considered this a daily motto since college, and also draws inspiration from this T.D. Jakes quote: “The world is a university and everyone in it is a teacher. Make sure when you wake up in the morning, you go to school.” This lifelong pursuit of learning is reflected in Dane’s present educational endeavors. He is currently working towards a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies, which he hopes will bring a new depth of understanding to his faith and philosophy.

Mr. Fragger is heading into his second year of college counseling at Pacifica Christian High School. He was looking to relocate to Los Angeles County with the primary aim to be closer to his church, so he focused on professional opportunities within that vicinity. In addition to location, he was also in search of a workplace that reflected his personal values, and somewhere he could make meaningful contributions and continue to grow. This journey led Dane to Pacifica. Pacifica turned out to be a “perfect fit,” not just geographically, but also in aligning with his values. Now, working at Pacifica, he is able to stay close to his church while contributing to a community that shares and respects his cherished principles. As our college counselor, Mr. Fragger plays an essential role in guiding students towards their educational pursuits post high school.

“The most rewarding part of my job is when students come into my office with a big smile on their faces, and say the words, ‘Mr. Fragger, I got accepted!’” Dane says, “In that moment, the room is filled with joy! Their excitement is contagious. Knowing that I have the opportunity to play a role in helping students unlock a new chapter in their lives is incredibly fulfilling. It’s why I love being a college counselor.”

In addition to meeting with students to chart their four-year-plans and assisting with the college application process, Dane also takes students on several trips throughout the school year to visit California universities. These trips are often offered to Sophomores and Juniors to kickstart their thought processes about college. Dane’s encouraging attitude and desire to see Pacifica students succeed has added incredible value to our campus and counseling department.

In his free time, Dane cherishes moments with his wife and three daughters. When he manages to carve out some time for himself, he turns to writing. He loves writing books, and hopes to author a few more in the next five years.
