Pacifica's Class of 2023!

June 15th, 2023

Senior Dinner
Each year, Pacifica hosts a sit-down meal for seniors and their families to celebrate the end of their high school years, reflect on their growth, and recognize the outstanding achievement of a select few individuals. Pacifica staff members transform the gym into a beautiful atmosphere where guests enjoy a catered meal while mingling with their classmates, teachers, and family members. This year, teachers and staff spoke about our Salutatorians and Valedictorian.

Dr. Sumida commended Salutatorian Kai Esprabens on his efforts in STEM and his curious nature. Mrs. Parekh spoke of Salutatorian Claire Gerold, highlighting her genuine joy of learning and pursuit of knowledge. Mrs. Savage spoke about Salutatorian Siena Burns and her graceful strength paired with her excellence in academics. Lastly, Mr. Comer spoke about Valedictorian Xander Constantine– how his leadership and meekness have made him stand out uniquely as a student at Pacifica. Claire Gerold also shared her reflections on the journey of high school, comparing it to an embryo growing. It was special to recognize these students who have gone above and beyond in their time at Pacifica, and to celebrate all of our deserving graduates.

Grad Nite
Wednesday afternoon, seniors and chaperones headed to DisneyLand for Grad Nite! Along with many other high school students, Pacifica seniors took over the park for the day, enjoying all the Disney treats and classic rides. At night, they had the park to themselves (and hundreds of other seniors from around California) for a Private Party Experience in the California Adventure Park. They didn’t return to Santa Monica until after 2 AM! This is a chaotic and fun final excursion for students to enjoy with each other and their closest staff members. Then, students had to rest up for the big day– graduation!

Graduation
Friday afternoon, students, faculty, and families arrived at Calvary Christian’s beautiful campus in the Palisades. After everyone checked in and found their seats, the commencement ceremony began. Pacifica’s Head of School, Jim Knight, began with an introductory speech, touching on the formation of the graduating class that has occurred over the past four years. English teacher Hilary Miller carried things on with remarks about the seniors. Next, Salutatorian Siena Burns shared her reflections on high school and the resiliency of her and her classmates. Valedictorian Xander Constantine spoke of what he has learned to be the two most critical qualities in life– gratitude and joy. Reverend John Arthur Nunes from Pilgrim Lutheran Church concluded with insight into the thoughts and opinions of the graduates, with a final congratulations to the group. Pacifica's Wolf PACappella team performed, and Evan Miller sang beautifully to conclude the ceremony.

Their diplomas were issued, their tassels were rotated, and their caps were tossed! We are so proud of this graduating class, and pray that their next steps are full of knowledge, confidence, and faith.
