Graduation Ceremony

Commencement 2017

Commencement will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Calvary Church in Pacific Palisades:

This service will last approximately one and a half hours. Graduates will be led by the bagpiper as they were when they attended their first dedication service at the beginning of their Pacifica journey.   

Graduatesʻ Arrival and Reception

Graduates should arrive at 2:00 pm in their caps, gowns, and stoles to take photos with other graduates. Graduates will line-up room at 2:30 pm. The doors of the sanctuary will open at 2:30 pm for general seating.

Parking

Parking is limited on the church property. We encourage you to carpool.

Tickets

Attendance at graduation is by ticket only. Seniors will be given up to ten tickets to be used for family members or personal friends. Any Pacifica students who are siblings of the graduates should secure their tickets through the graduates’ family allotments. Please email commencement@pacificachristian.org to reserve the number of tickets you need on a first come, first served basis before December 16  at 3:00 pm. Please reserve the exact number that you think you will need. Should you need more than eight tickets, there may be more available if some families do not use all of their allotted tickets. Once the tickets have been issued for every graduate, extra tickets will be distributed in the order of your email reservation. 

Honors at Commencement

The honors awarded at commencement will be based on students’ cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the fall 2016 semester.

The honors categories are:

3.8 – 4.0 – Summa cum laude

3.5 – 3.79 – Magna cum laude

3.3 – 3.49 – Cum laude

Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Students will be chosen for valedictorian and salutatorian according to many different factors: commitment to the mission of the school, rigor of their academic program, character, cumulative GPA rank, and participation in school events.  When calculating cumulative GPA, extracurricular grades are not considered such as athletics, student government, theater performance, theater production, or TA. Salutatorian recipients must have been in residence both semesters of their senior year. The valedictorian recipient must have been in residence both semesters of his/her junior and senior year.  Selections are made by the administration.  A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required to be considered for Valedictorian or Salutatorian. The school reserves the right to alter its choice in the case of repeated or severe disciplinary issues. When students are auditioning to speak at the commencement ceremony, the Valedictorian and Salutatorians will be given priority.
