Arcadia by Tom Stoppard
Set in a room on the garden front of a stately home in Derbyshire England, the play transports between two worlds separated by nearly 200 years. Thomasina Coverly studies the complexities of algebra, philosophy, Latin, and the ways of her aristocratic set with her mercurial tutor Septimus Hodge in 1809. Meanwhile, Hannah Jarvis clashes with her intellectual equal Bernard Nightingale in the same room during the modern day, each seeking to uncover a mystery concerning a duel which may or may not have occurred two centuries before.
Regarded as one of the seminal theatrical works of the late 20th century, Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia will leave you laughing, crying, and thinking about our timeless pursuit of knowing all there is to know.
