ENGINEERING AND DESIGN

Engineering is the study of designing and building a better world. From iPhones to bridges, from nanotechnology to skyscrapers, engineers design solutions that benefit society. Explore the engineering field this summer at Pacifica. This weeklong course will explore topics in engineering through hands-on projects and activities that will introduce students to the engineering design process. Students will have the opportunity to design bridges and structures, solder electronic circuits, build robots, and learn about engineering drawing. Students will also learn about the different disciplines of engineering, the engineering profession, and college programs. Early drop off and late stay options available.

Taught by Pacifica’s own theater instructor Jonathan Sims, this course introduces students to the fun and creative world of improv comedy. Students will practice improv games, learn the art of the long form improv technique “the Harold,” attend a performance at the world famous 2nd City Improv theater in Hollywood, and perform in their own improv show at the end of the week.

DIGITAL VIDEO PRODUCTION
July 5–8 || T•W•TH•F || 9:00 am–12:00 pm || Grades 6–10 || $300
Digital Video Production is a fun but intensive digital media course that will introduce students to the basics of how to shoot, edit, and produce digital videos. Whether it is stop motion animation, Final Cut Tricks and tips, or old-fashioned cinematography, students will learn the skills they need to bring their vision to life. Held on the campus of Pacifica Christian High School in Santa Monica, Digital Video Production is a great chance for middle and high school students to learn from industry professionals… and for our teachers to learn from the students! Students will use GoPro, DCLR, and Drone-supported cameras, and learn the essentials of on-set equipment for lights, camera, action!

ART AS ARCHITECTURE IN L.A. // This Camp REgistration is Closed //
July 5–8 || T•W•TH•F || 10:30 am–2:30 pm || Grades: 6–10 || $300
This is a survey of architectural and urban history from baroque to contemporary movements that cover significant buildings, spaces, artifacts, and theories of modernism. Los Angeles is rich with Modern, Post-Modern, Art Deco, and Classical Architecture, and students in this course will see it first hand. Part architecture history class and part field trip, Art as Architecture puts students up close and personal with some of the most influential buildings of the 20th century. Class activities include learning the latest techniques on digital design, engaging in demonstrations using digital and analog techniques, and participating in group and one-on-one instruction led by architects and designers, critics, and instructors.
