WHO WE ARE
Pacifica Christian High School is a liberal arts, college preparatory, Christian high school in the heart of Santa Monica, founded in 2005. For over a decade, Pacifica has been teaching young men and women to think critically and wisely, instilling joy and interest in learning, while encouraging lives of faith, character, and service to the glory of God.
We engage students by encouraging them to think well, live well, and to do so in a community. These practices are critical in preparing them to enjoy learning, to live an abundant life as young adults, and to be active contributors to our national and local communities.
Thinking well is a thorough and critical engagement with knowledge and ideas, encouraging a posture of humility, curiosity, and commitment to truth. It involves seeking goodness and beauty. Thinking well involves both an openness to new ideas, creative thinking, as well as a deep appreciation for and understanding of our civilization’s history; this inclusion of history’s greatest thinkers and their ideas is known to us as The Great Conversation. Thinking well also provides students with a fuller understanding of what it means to be human and provides them the freedom to find their place in our world. We believe thinking well is best achieved through a liberal arts education, innovative special programs, and integrating Christian faith and learning.
Living well at Pacifica involves leading a joyful life, rising to challenges, celebrating accomplishments, and embracing the tenets of virtue and faith. Pacifica students are taught both inside and outside the classroom, modelling teachers and coaches mature in Christian faith, apt in the art of teaching, and dedicate to pouring into the lives of teenagers as individuals and as scholars. We approach education as a pursuit of joy as an end in itself, rather than a means to an end; this approach leads to an awareness, engagement, and ultimately an ownership in the world around them. Learning to practice faith, understanding, virtue, and resilience prepares Pacifica students to live a rich life beyond high school.
In community, students are taught to think and live well in relationship to their fellow students, parents, faculty, and administrators. Pacifica faculty develop personal and engaging relationships with students as their teaching styles engage both the heart and the mind. Our student body is composed of a diverse group of students with a variety of interests in athletics, art, film, engineering, or entrepreneurship, who have strengths across numerous academic disciplines, yet they unite through joy, encouragement, and pride. Families from all backgrounds unite together with our faculty and administration through authentic relationships and community events. Our community is the heart of Pacifica.
We believe a Pacifica education provides tangible benefits, like preparation for college, career, family, and service to the church and community. By approaching education as a joy-instilling, freedom-producing journey, we provide our graduates with a foundation for success in college, life, work, and faith.
We believe that the values of conviction and curiosity are not contradictory, but complementary. One can be curious about the world, ideas, and things that are new and at the same time hold fast to convictions that have passed the test of thousands of years of solid thought.
